Default From the Hot Rod Power Tour

Hot Rod just published on-line all the pictures of the Long Haul (Florida to Detroit) cars as we passed by the HRPT bus. Didn't turn out too bad.

Group shot taken at the GM Proving Grounds in Michigan of the whole gang of Long Haulers that went the entire way.

I looked for you as you passed through my home town but you must have passed through early. I did get to meet RollaMoLT4 and his wife though.
Glad you had a fun trip!

Bad picture of a picture of the GM Proving grounds. I think they said 40,000 acres.

No, nobody got to go on the long straightaway but at the end of the tour, everybody followed the leader on about 1/4 of the test tracks going from one track to another showing us how the cars go through different tests and different types of road surfaces. There were a few times that allowed a car or two to get up to some decent speed if you let the car ahead of you get going while you slowed down to put some space between you and him. I made it up to about 100 before slowing down and catching up to the guy ahead. Was a fun day.

nice of them to open it up

When I lived out there, they let us autocross in the parking lot, but no further.

Even as late as 2003, there were only a few hundred long haulers.
My first long haul in '03 you could actually see your face in the magazine picture and recognize the people.

The proving grounds are on 4400 acres and has a 140 miles of road. It is surounded by 13 miles of fence. The parking lot we were on was 66 acres alone. It was a freat place to have the final day of a fantasic week. Gotta say GM did a great job hosting the event!
