After two summers of no AC I finally got it rebuilt. New R134 compressor, accumulator and O-ring kit from Ecklers and new condenser. Bought a vacuum pump and gauge from HF.
Took most of last weekend taking apart and re-assembling. Was surprised on how easy the disassembly was. Also gave me a chance to clean out all the junk stuck between the radiator and condenser. Found part of a plastic bag and old Fast Food receipt from Mesa Az and a bunch of leaves and hair. How in the heck does hair get clogged into the radiator fins?
Has some issues getting the shroud lined up on reassembly. Broke one of the air cleaner bolt clips that hold the bolt from moving when installing the air cleaner. The R134 low side adapter on the accumulator doesn't leave much room between it and the radiator shroud when connecting the low side of the vacuum gauge. Left it off and used the R12 connector to the gauge.
Held a vacuum overnight Friday night and put in the R134 Saturday morning. Did some head scratching when the compressor still wouldn't turn on after two 12 oz cans. Finally figured out I didn't reattach the two sensor cables. Put the 3rd 12oz can in and its blowin cold air now.

How I envy you!
I need to fix mine and change it as well.
Was it very expensive for the parts you bought to fix and replace the old?
I'm just across the river,I may need to contact you for advice and help!

For a couple of Canadian Beers I might be convinced to come over. I was in TO last week and the US Customs Agent gave me some grief coming back into the country.
The parts cost about 400usd. R134 conversion kit and condenser. The kit included the compressor, o-rings, R134 fittings and accumulator/dryer and orifice tube.
how do you know if its bad or just needs charging????
The PO said he had to put a few cans of R12 in every few months in the summer. When I took it apart, several O-Rings were squashed and slightly torn and the compressor was slinging gunk onto the underside of the hood.
Still blowing cold air after a week. Hopefully it'll hold for a few years now. Hate to think what a AC shop would have charged for a complete rebuild minus the evap unit.
