Default Grandsport wheels

I decided I'm going with Grandsport A molds for my Corvette but noticed that they are not all exactly alike. Ecklers has a some for $230 for 9.5s and $240 for 11s. However I seen Corvette America has some for $250 for 9.5s and $300 for 11s but the black paint ends just past the edge of the spokes. On real Grandsports the black paint extends further out. I want to get the best quality most accurate rims I can buy but dont know what else is out there and wonder how accurate these rims even are to the originals. So do they make exact replicas that are the same weight and everything as originals?

thanks shock93 those are nice but those are recessed further than the factory grand sport wheels and the black paint does not extend out towards the edge of the rim as the originals do. There must not be accurate aftermarket grand sport wheels available. Iv'e been looking all over. Sure would be nice if GM made them.

Your best bet will be to find a used original set, or try to find a used aftermarket set cheap and have them powdercoated the way you want. I too like the original way they were painted, but I'm totally happy with the set I got from OEwheelsllc.com

Just for the record what your looking at in the magazines arent A-Molds,there knock offs, theres a reason they dont look like originals.Ive got a complete set of OEM GS A-Molds for sale that are perfect with 8000 miles, bought these new years ago. They are in the for sale section if your interested.Only true A-Molds have only the very edge of the brushed area exposed, the aftermarket wheels have a larger exposed area.Years ago there was a company making a wheel that had the same look as the OEM wheel but its no longer being made.Copy infringement, who knows.

allow me to weigh in with my ignorance front and center.

I believe that the facory wheels were forged and justify the $2,500 to $4,000 price I've seen them sell for on these forums...and they only come up for sale on rare occassions.

All other aftermarket wheels are cast which explains why you can buy them for hundreds, and not thousands of dollars.

If I'm wrong here, mia culpa...be gentle, remember

I have no idea the process used to make the factory wheels. The after market wheels are made in China,I know that much.To the OP,why buy aftermarket wheels from Ecklers or Mid America when you can buy the same wheel on Fleabay for alot less, same wheel.

I have a set from AFS that are pretty darn close if not exact as factory, but I bought them in 2001, someone else here bought from AFS in 2002 and they were completely different as described in the original post.

Mine from AFS in the 9.5/11 inch size with tires were $1248 including shipping and mounting and balancing.
Don't know what they would cost today.

Get the original equip a molds. I have 2 sets (1 is a spare or for 'race' tires). These are lighter than the heavier cast repros.

Thanks for all the info, shakedown067 your corvette looks awsome, has anyone from here bought rims from upgradeyourauto?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1996-...mZ350406136111

I found these on ebay today, these even look more accurate than Ecklers rims, they look spot on.
