I just replaced the fuel pressure regulator on my '94 Corvette. Every time I drove the car I would smell gasoline after parking it. Replacing the fuel pressure regulator seemed to do the trick, as it was definitely bad.
However, I tried driving it around the block today to test it and it backfired a couple times on me. Any ideas what it could be? I'm wondering if there is gasoline inside the engine since there may have been gasoline in the oil due to the bad fuel pressure regulator.
I've changed the oil multiple times. I also replaced the fuel injectors on the car prior to changing the fuel pressure regulator.
Backfired out of the intake or the exhaust? As Mohammed stated, ignition / emissions related failures most often cause backfiring. Run a quick compression test to rule out a stuck valve though. Any codes stored in the PCM?
If the compression test gives it a clean bill of health mechanically, have the ignition module tested next.
Backfiring out the intake is caused by spark occuring when the intake valve is open and in your year vette, that is giant red flag for a defective optispark! Good luck!
