Periodically, the hatch in my 95 will open on its own and occassionally it will continue to open every time I close it. The electric latch is firing and releasing it.
the PKE light comes on periodically but I don't know if they are related.
Today, I couldnt get the hatch to stop opening so I had to pull the fuse.
Check switch by switch. If i'm not completely mistaken about the 95, there is one switch on the drivers side and one in the center console. You are going to have to pull some stuff apart to get to them. Reinsert the fuse and make sure that the problem is happening, then disconnect one of the switches. If it stops, then replace it. If it dosn't, try the next one.
Someone may have to correct me on the number and locations of the switches on a 95. Check all of them. I'm 99% sure one of them is your problem.
This happened to my '96. I concluded that the solid-state switch in the PKE controller is closing the circuit to the hatch release relay. For now, I have a pull-wire attached to the release mechanism, and the hatch release solenoid is disconnected. The dashboard will need to be disassembled to repair the problem properly.

I have to agree with this. I'm having the same problem, but for now I've just pulled the hatch fuse. I'll look at replacing the PKE as next years project.

I'm thinking that I may just cut the wire from the PKE to the relay. I don't use the PKE fobs anyway, and it's no trouble to use the switch on the driver's door to open the hatch. I don't know if the PKE receivers are still available, and I don't need to have this problem again. Seems it's a fairly common problem.

That's a good idea, it is a pain having to put the fuse in just to pop the hatch.
...just a thought...but check your door ajar switches. My 96 coupe hatch acted strange along with other PKE 'ghosts'. Turned out it was the door ajar switch on the driver side along with a door hinge kit.
