Default Help!!!! Disconnected CAGS... It's still functioning!

Making the Generational Leap here. Disconnected a family members CAGS (I thought!) based on what I researched on the forum. It's a 1995 6-spd, propped it up, crawled underneath the driver's side and pulled the plug closest to the front of the transmission. Used a 2.2k Ohm 1/2 watt resistor in the female plug, wrapped it up and tied it out of the way. Found out last night that the mod didn't work. Now I'm scratching my head wondering what I unplugged...

Guys, could really use some tips here. Any thoughts?

Was it the reverse light switch? I'm trying to remember where that was, I was lying upside-down and backwards under there, but I thought that was on the passenger side. If memory serves, the CAGS is well up in the tunnel.

If you disconnected the right plug the "one to four" light will still work, but the the shifting mechanism shouldn't. Also, plug the ohms resistor into the male plug not the female.

Re-Connect it, there is an easier way. There are two relays attached to the fenderwell near the battery. I believe it is the one closest one to the engine. Just disconnect the cable from it. Takes 45 seconds and works like a charm.

Good luck.

Just took a look at it to be sure, The reverse light switch is on the DRIVER'S side toward the front of the transmission. I guess my memory ain't what it used to be, vestige of an epic misspent youth. :D

Will have to verify, but sounds like I unplugged the reverse light. Not looking forward to having to jack the front end up again! Can anyone tell me where I can find the CAGS plug?

Jay - your tip sounds great (and easy!) - can you provide any other identifiers for the relay, as you can see I have a habit of pulling the wrong thing!

You would really have to work to disconnect the reverse light. That sucka is in a tight spot.

Since it's not your car, is it possible the owner is confused by the "first to fourth" light coming on and assuming that means the CAGS is still connected? As mentioned above, the light continues to work even when CAGS is disconnected.

There should be 3 connectors on th etranny. One for the reverse lights (way up top on driver side next to bell housing, one for the CAGS (in the center next to or connected to the small cylinder that sticks out), and one for the speed sensor. The middle one is what you want to unplug. It should be an external connector whereas the other 2 plug into a sensor on the tranny.
