Hey everyone I am new to the forum and figured I would make my first post. I am here to share my great experience with re dyeing the interior plastics. 20 years of use had my plastic looking dull and faded, so i decided to dye it. I used Performance Choice products and they worked outstanding. Its really quite simple and with some care and patience you will get outstanding results as well. What you will need as far as supplies is Plastic Prep, Clear Flexible Bonding, Interior Dye(flame red for me) and the clear top coat. All of these are available from MidAmericaMotorworks. Start by carefully removing all the pieces you plan to dye. They if necessary lightly sand with 1000 grit, be careful not to sand plastic grain away. If in decent shape already I used a 3m plastic scotch brite pad to light scuff surface. Then wash and dry with mild soap(i used dish soap). Now your are going to want a clean environment to paint in. Hang parts if possible with modified clothes hangers. Now wipe down with a decent amount of the plastic prep cleaner. Then spray 2 light coats of the clear bonding, waiting 5-10 minutes in between coats. Next is the color coat, apply a light coat followed by a medium coat and then a wet coat (waiting 10 minutes between coats). And finally follow up with a few coats of clear coat. That is it, allow at least 24 hours before re installing, then get in your car and go enjoy your factory fresh look.
