My wife and I have been casually searching for a RED corvette to be her daily driver and our weekend fun car. Doesn't have to be a C4, but there priced reasonably so I'm checking them over on Craigs List and local Ebay. She is retired so daily driver is light use at maybe 150-200 a month for her and add perhaps another 200 a month for me. During the clean road season obviously.
We want a stock vette with automatic since she is not a clutch gal.
She is after me to go check this car out sinced its a reasonably close availability. Looks prime but I haven't the experience in this market that many of you have...can I get some candid evaluation maybe?
The car is about a 2-hour drive from where I live so I wouldn't use the eBay system if I were to buy it. Most all the dealers seem open to a direct sale even though they do use eBay to gain a wider viewer base.
The price is definitely in need of some adjustment I feel, but that's neither here nor there until I check it over and see if his add is better than the car actually is.
I'm generally cynical about the rave reviews a dealer will use. This one certainly is pumping up this car to be one in a million. So were it not for my wife’s energy, I'd never chase after a car this far away.
have you considered private party ? we have a for sale section here. I dont know if you've noticed, but these folks tend to baby their vettes and you may get something with good maintenance/ records/ and a real firsthand knowledge of the car you are interested in and an excellent price. with a dealer, you will get none of that. and after your purchase from a dealer, we'll have you on here asking questions that you could be asking someone with a real knowledge of the specific vette. when we see you back here after your purchase from a dealer with no warrentee, no service, and no background, my only thought will be ' shame on you' I read the complete add, $300 service charge on sales, and 'no warrentee of any kind' really stuck out.

The buy it now is too high. Looks like a nice car, but go drive it before bidding. You can spend a bundle on these cars if it's not in good mechanical shape. In good condition it should be under 10K.

You also need to clearly understand what the car's accident history is (if any).
I should have been so lucky that my husband bought me my corvette. I had to buy it myself!
That being said, the fact that it still had the original "pens and stickers and owner's manual" after 5 owners says to me that it was probably well maintained, BUT...I would still take it for a drive, since it's that close, and have someone independent check it out for possible accidents that may not have been reported.
It looks great. My only "problems" with it, is that it's not a convertible, and it's an automatic. But those are personal preferences, and not deal breakers.
I think it looks great. Certainly garage kept and it looks like the factory protection on the bottom of the door carpeting. Someone loved that car. The dealer is asking top dollar for it but the ad does have a place for "Make an offer". I'd offer 10,500 and see where he goes. The car has only been driven around 2500 miles, or so, a year. Good find.
I have owned this spotless C4 Convertible for over 10 years and have maintained it and kept it as stock as possible. It is a pleasure to drive on sunny days and should not have much depreciation left in it. It may not be easy to find a worthy Corvette close to your residence since these C4's are older. I would gladly answer any question you have in a honest manner. This particular C4 is a spotless, original, and well maintained C4 that needs little.
I suggest getting a targa. Convertables are cool, but the drop top adds weight and kinda messes with the weight ratio. However, that is just my opinion.
Both of the cars look GREAT! The interior of the Ebay car makes my eyes hurt a little bit since it's so bright, but damn that is a BEAUTIFUL car. If your looking for a cruiser and don't mind spending a nice penny, go for it. Honestly, there are a surprising number of C4s in decent condition. Both of these cars and in awesome condition. Hard decision. Congrats in advance for joining the C4 Corvette Club!!!
