Default interior lights

My doors are closed, hatch is sealed and yet my interior lights stay on. I played with the dimmer switch and the rear view mirror switch, they stay on. I have noticed both doors must be closed when I turn the car on. Any ideas?

Also they will stay on for about 30 seconds after you shut the doors. BTW, it is always helpful if you put the year of your car when asking for help.

oh, its a 1990. The door/ajar light on the dash is off, though. I also forgot to notate that they are on while driving. During the day its not to bad, but at night drives me nuts.
