Your 15 to 27 year old vette is not meant to keep up with todays technology. If it would it would mean automobile engineering would have stood still all that time.
Its just like my 70 Dodge Charger R/T 440 magnum 4 speed with 22,600 original miles that I bought 41 years ago when I was 16 years old and have held onto all these years. Quick for its day, but technology has past it by.
I still like to rip, run, and cruise the 70 Charger and the 87 Vette.
If you want cutting edge, state of the art technology afforded in todays car go buy some, if not just sit back and enjoy the ride.
You said it all. Sad thing is that some here can't except it. They would rather keep crying about why their 20 something year old car is not as powerful as a new one. Are new cars supposed to be less powerful and advanced to them?
I agree with most of the counterpoints to "why does your vintage 240hp car have to be as fast as a V6 Camry", but the way I look at it is that the C4 is great with about 350-370hp.
It just so happens that it is a lot easier and cheaper to get that power out of an LT1 car.
There's is also the argument from people who have strict emissions inspections. Legal mods cost more- Once again the LT1/4 is a better platform since you don't have to replace the whole induction system. The one thing I hate is losing a ton of fuel economy too. it's inevitable, that's why I think 350hp is a really good level to be at.
As I like to say..."any fool can drive fast straight, but only real drivers can drive fast through a corner"...so what if a modern Camry is faster then earlier C4's straight line...run them into a corner and any C4 will still whip any Camry's butt!

What? A modern Camry V-6 is faster than my stock 86? Wow! How modern, like 2011 modern. That makes me sick. At least she's still a head turner. I get complements everywhere I go. AND........3.5 & 4 sec. to 60 she ain't but anything under 6 seconds is still moving and fun to drive so it's not a total loss. I'd rather be driving my old 86 than a new Camry anyway. It has style. Something the Camry doesn't. There's nothing like owning a corvette no matter what year it is. It's the all American sports car. It's a legend. That's why they get fixed opposed to junked as all rice burners eventually do...lol
I think the real question is why 20 something year old Corvettes still kick the average cars butt? Answer: they are just that good. Took 20 years for them to catch up, about dang time. Took you long enough. Besides how many V6 Camry's do you see, most like 80%, are 4 poppers.
I drove in a charity run with 180 exotic cars..my 92 was prolly the slowest of the bunch..I didn't really care..especially when the cops pulled over about 30 or 40 of them on the LIE..they liked the orange lambos the best..I just strolled by at about 70 with the top down..my car is all I can afford right now..its faster than my 72 GTO was..handles awesome..and its a vert..done..
My Corvette makes ME happy. Don't care about anybody else. In my view, if you bought one of any year, to make anybody but you happy then you will forvever be a miserable putz. Corvettes are a bit more rarified than just about any honda or any other tin can. Enjoy yours, share your experiences with others and just remember, there is always somebody that sees you in your Vette wishing they were there and not in a minivan! In my never to be humble opinion
