Yep, it's normal.
215° F is not really that hot.

With a properly maintained cooling system (Clean radiator, proper coolant mix, pressure cap, etc), the boiling point is close to 260°F.

Normal:
Moving at any speed over 35mph = 190°F. - 198°F.
Sitting still for any length of time = 200°F. - 235°F.

Some people don't like those temperatures though.
But that is how a "stock" car runs, and how it came from the factory running.

Especially since you live in TX where your car will overheat without even runningg the engine.

Yours is the same as mine and I live in KY. When you turn on the A/C the fans more then make up for the extra heat.

You can always use a garden hose to cool it down. Use a pressure nozzle and aim it at the front of the engine, just below the water pump (it cools best there). This is most effective at cooling LT1 engines.

Now that's just plain ornery Friz. Is that hole in the bottom of the later Opti's for drainage?

Why yes....yes it is. It's a dual function hose. You raise it up to it's highest point and pour the water in there to cool the opti.....hold it there for a few moments....then lower it down to drain the excess. I guarantee the engine will now be cooler.

Be careful not to spill any of that water, Texas is running real low from what I hear... Looks like you Texan's will have to start drinking more beer if you don't get rain soon...WW

A 92 or 93 would require the Add-a-Hose mod first. After you add the hose to the bottom of the Opti then you drill and tap the weep hole on the water pump for a 1/8" NPT and install a brass barb fitting. You then run a hose from the weep hole fitting to the Add-a-Hole in the Opti bottom. That way if the water pump ever starts to leak the engine automatically shuts down to stop damage from overheating. I will guarantee this to work.

Wayne, believe it or not, it's been rainin' like a **** here in the desert the last couple of weeks. We're at 50% chance tomorrow too....and (Thank God) the forests of Southern NM are finally getting enough precip to get them open again....fire danger is finally down from extreme.

SS's "add-a-hose" mod sounds VERY effective at cooling those pesky hot running early LT1's
