I purchased a set of Hella Vision plus H4 conversion kits for my 1986 and I have a problem adjusting these things. The low beam aims to far to the right and I can adjust that over no problem but when I turn on the high beam it is all the way on the left side of the road nowhere near aiming down the road like they should be. So bottom line is my high beams are more or less usless to me. Has anyone else had this problem?
Have you had them adjusted with aiming equipment or just up against the garage door? First I would be sure the housing is seated correctly in it's bucket, that is a common mistake.
just up against a flat wall and they are seated perfect into the housing. I thought of that at first and checked to make sure that they are in place correct. And these H4's do not have a flat beam at all except a little to the left of the beam I can see a flat cut off line. But that still isn't my problem when I turn my high beams on they shouldn't be aiming off the road on the driver side. When I turn on the high beams they actually go almost to a 45 degree angle to the left instead of shining straight down the road
I've got the same lights in my '85 and never had such an issue, maybe a defective housing?? Is it possible your bucket may be bent? With the extra light from the Hellas the aim is much more visible than with plain old sealed beams.
I've had the cibie lamps with 100/130w bulbs for about 5 years now. They are equal or better than anything else I have seen.
Just the relay kit will add light to any car.
If you drive at night it will cost about $250, plus an afternoon to wire it up.
The flat beam/sharp cutoff keep the light on the road not in on-comming drivers eyes. It also keeps it off the rain so you don't get "back dazzel".
They are suppose to be Euro but say DOT on them. I bought them from Summit about a year ago. I messed with tem again today and everything is seated properly. Here is what is going on I believe the high beam are aimed correctly but that the low beams are my problem. When High beams are aimed properly the low beams are aiming on the right side of the road towards the passenger side pretty far. more or less aimed at the shoulder of the road with the center of the beam but the flat line of the beam is in front of my car. So does anyone elses lights on low aimed that far to the right ? I can get them adjusted where I think they need to be but I use all adjustment in my adjusters and I then have the problem with the aim of the high beams.
Are the H4 bulbs installed properly? If the bulb doesn't sit properly in the housing, that could be the reason. Make sure the three tabs on the bulb housing are not bent or twisted. It's also possible for the glass bulb itself to not be aligned to the bulb housing. I've seen that with cheap aftermarket bulbs. Try another set of bulbs.
I have had two sets of Hella lamps in C4's and they worked just fine. Both sets had the flat top look to the low beam pattern and that beam style is common in Europe for driving in fog or rain. The angle to the right helps to see the right shoulder of the road.
No reason to think that Cibie lamps are any better or worse.
I double checked and tried new bulbs and everything is seated correct. I adjusted them going by the 25 foot rule and the low beams look ok but when I turn on the high beams the beam is way off to the driver side nowhere near where they need to be for them to be any use to me at all. I'll try and call Hella and see what they say.
If those lights are truly "Euro" lights--they might be built for the roads where they drive on the left? They would be designed to shine as you describe to the drivers side on high beam. That would make sense if you drove on a road like in Europe where they drive on the left.
