My hood is difficult to raise. Would buying a new what-ever-you-call-that-thing (single with pop out) help. Were they originally this difficult to raise......my Jeep GC had two for the hood....I bought three sets guess it was the AZ heat.
My wife is not in the mood to help me raise the hood
Sorry,,, I should have checked your year first, you have an 87 I guess. I can't picture that support (non-hydraulic?), I think you can get some supplemental supports, check here:
OK, will do that. I have looked and I am having a little trouble finding the single--like the original--only have three catalogues --have Mid America Motorworks, Corvette Central, and Corvette America--got a new air intake box from Corvette Central, they are fast.
I went for a later strut assist filled with gas and now the hood opens with 2 fingers. I then added the two smaller front struts and the darn thing opened TOO fast. Actually slammed the stops as it came up to full open. Took the little ones out and went back to the stock ones and now it's great. It was an upgrade especially built for the 86-87 and costs a bit (about $150.00 for the kit which consisted of new brackets that fit the old holes. No drilling required. Sorry, forget where I bought them on-line. It's been a few years.
Here's an older thread which might give you more information.
YES, for years I struggled with my hood until I replaced the hood shocks. The hood almost lifts itself and it stays up without the safety bar. I got them from Corvette Central.

Have you seen the single type for an '87?
I have an 87 and it has two. Each one located next to the head light. Just wondering if they came from the factory with one or two. Mine must be bad, because it lifts like a ton of bricks. If you get extra support do they cause stress on your hood ??

My 87 also has two small gas struts from the factory and my hood takes some effort to open. It's worth replacing them if you don't want to upgrade to the later single gas strut.
