Default Problems with my C4 Hatchback

I have a 1993 C4 Hatchback Coupe. When I pull the cover out to cover the rear deck, it slips past the stop hooks at the front, and slides back under the rails about a foot or so. Is there a fix for this?

There is a relay that energizes when I open a door, or set on the seats. It is located back of the glove compartment and I'm told opens the rear hatch. The hatch opens when the key fob button is pushed, and the relay will quit buzzing. But the next time a door is opened it will energize again and hum for several minutes. My Chevy dealer says it has a partial ground somewhere, but they haven't found it yet. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help you can give!

You can buy oversized replacement hooks from most parts vendors. I had the same problem and these solved it for me.

There are four ways you can open the rear Hatch.

1) Key fob

2) Console Hatch Release Switch/button (For a automatic trans. shifter must be in Park or Neutral for the button to work). (For a manual transmission, the Parking Brake must be on).

3) Hatch Release Switch on the back edge of the driver side door panel.
When the door is open and the Hatch Release Switch is pushed downward, the Door Ajar Switch completes the path to ground so the Hatch Release Relay is energized.

4) Manually open the hatch by pulling the emergency hatch release cable.

Sounds like your problem is related to #3.

If the Drivers door Hatch Release Switch is always closed. (Stuck switch),
every time you open the drivers door, the Hatch Release Relay will energize.

The buzzing sound could indicate the Hatch Release Switch is always
enabled. If you press inward on the Door Ajar Switch (located on the
back/side of the door frame and the buzzing stops, that would indicate something is wrong with the drivers Hatch Release Switch.

Thank you, I bet that is it. My Vet is stored about 10 miles from here or I would check it right now.

Thanks for your help, I'll let you know what I find out.

I did not know this, I thought the push button or circuit was dead. I guess GM thought it shouldnt be an ejection seat function

Thanks for that bit of info.

To Hooked on Vette's,

Well I got a chance to try the hatch release on the drivers door, and just wiggling it made the problem go away. The switch seems to work fine as far as releasing the rear hatch goes. Tried operating the switch a few times, and if the problem reoccurs I'll replace the switch.

Now here is the strange thing, another problem with my 93 Corvette was that the bright lights didn't work, when you worked the multi-switch, you got no brights, and no blue light indicator on the dash. As soon as the hatch relay problem was fixed, the brights began to work as well? Not sure why they would be related, but I'm grateful for your advice. Thanks much, and keep your Vette rolling!

To Mark Klien,

I did finally find what you call the over sized hooks to retain the rear curtain at on my C4 Corvette at Corvette Central. At least I think so, they call them Rear Window Shade Retainers - Quiet Ride. I have them coming, and thanks for the help.

Probably not related. The most common problem with the high beams not working is the holes for the tilt wheel steering pivot pins oval out and cause play in the steering column.

Move the tilt wheel to a different position and see if the high
beams start working.

Here's a thread that describes a way to fix the problem.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...pictorial.html

The high beam switch is activated by moving a metal rod that goes down the side of the steering column. The high beam switch is bolted to the side on the middle of the steering column.

Here's a picture of the high beam switch.

You should hear a distinct click every time the high beam switch is operated. The high beam switch is mounted on a slotted bracket so it does have a limited amount of adjustment.

There are also a couple of bolts deep inside the steering column that can loosen up over time. It can cause excessive play in all directions in the steering wheel. Using Loctite on the bolts cures that problem.

If you do a search on steering column, you'll see plenty of threads about steering column problems.

Yep, mine arrived today, it is easy to see they will fix the problem.

Along with that order I got two Rear Roof Panel Lock Bolts, I ordered these because one of mine keeps dropping out, and I wanted one with the retainer. Mine came without the retainers. Do you have a part number for those?

Thanks,
