I did a search and no luck...any pics or instructions on how to get the mnirror off a c4 sunvisor so I can unplug the light? do you use a gem clip in a little hole somewhere? Thanks
Just removed my driver's side (1996) on Sat. Remove the roof panel and you will see a housing that holds the end of the visor. Remove the housing cover (2 screws) and you will see how the visor is held in place. There is a small nut (8 mm., I believe) you need to remove first. Directly under the nut is a retainer with a star-shaped center that is also threaded on to the end of the visor. There may be a special tool to deal with this retainer but I don't have one. Instead, I held the retainer in place using some pressure from my thumb and forefinger and actually unscrewed the visor from the retainer. It's a little difficult to explain but hold the retainer in place and swing the visor about 90 degrees and the threaded end will begin to unscrew. Repeat the process until the retainer is loose enough to remove. I left all of the other pieces in place, inserted the end of the new visor and got the retainer started. Now you are holding the visor in one position and using finger pressure to turn the retainer. Once you get the retainer started on the threads, you can reattach the nut, wrench it down tight and you're home free.

Reason: Additional instruction
I've removed the visors from both of my C4's. I hated getting scalped by them everytime I got out of the car.
That is the first things to be removed on my 4th last C4's... Being over 6 foot they are right in my face when driving and the vette is a lot nicer with targa off without those ugly visors!!!

If you just want to disable the light(s) you can pop off the plastic light covers and remove the bulbs. If you want to remove the lights and wiring entirely you can pop the central mirror part of the fixture off its fiberboard backing -- it's just a press fit, two studs fitting into holes in the board. When the mirror comes off the plastic frame containing the lights will be free.
There's no need to remove the visors entirely unless you want to get rid of them. I would like to but need them to hold up a reflective sunscreen, so I just removed the dangling "ears" from each.
Just cut 'em off, folded the excess fabric back on itself and stapled the folded ends onto the backing board, hiding the staples under the plastic mirror frame.
But I don't really recommend any of my "fixes" to anyone else. For me this is not a "serious" car so I'm not overly worried how it comes out....it may work, it may not, but what the hell. And some owners are **** retentive about keeping the OEM appearance, but I am not.
