I'm in Mesa, AZ/85201 and may sell the car to a guy in Palos Park, IL/60464. I don't want to drive it there with 3:73's. It's 1600 miles. Anybody had recent experience with a reliable shipper and/or know the approximate cost per mile charge? Thanks.
I need to ship a car too. Some have recommended Intercity Lines shipping Co., however if there are other recommended companies I too would like to hear about them.
Intercity is a top tier transporter, one of the very best ones out there, with air ride enclosed carriers and top quality service and handling of your car. Your car is never left unattended (with the truck parked in a motel parking lot, etc.). The driver does a meticulous inspection of the car when he picks it up, and goes over the car and inspection with you upon delivery.
If you're transporting a very nice car, I wouldn't use any other transporter...but you'll pay extra for their quality.
I used DAS Auto Shippers and had a great experience.
But........we know that every shipment is a new experience with whatever carrier is chosen.
Two recommendations:
1. Read the contract and understand what you are buying and what terms you are agreeing to.
2. Ship with a company that uses their own fleet and is not just a broker. Very few fleet owners out there out a lot of brokers.....know what you are getting.
In the case of DAS...........I agreed to their schedule even though it seemed long. I also upgraded to enclosed, door-to-door delivery, and the most important....top load. Their terms stated they were not responsible for fluid leaks onto bottom vehicles.
Intercity Lines will be glad to give you a Corvette Forum price of $1495 to ship your Corvette from AZ to IL. If we can help you with your move please let us know.
I used DAS auto shippers. You can go on their web site and they have a thing where you can get a free quote. It is even cheaper if you ship from one terminal to another. They seem to have a terminal in most bigger cities. By the way make it the buyers responsibility to arrange shipping, thats how it is done on ebay. I had my car shipped from Kentucky and it worked out great.
I used Fed Ex Custom Critical transport. This was a number of years back with a choice of an open or closed carrier. The only tough time I had was they put my car in a fed ex box and wedged in my front door! LOL!
