Re: 83? / 84 C4 (Jarmo)
84 was the first C4, so performance was the lowest of all C4s. Horsepower was 205 I believe. Crossfires not the most powerful by any means, but they are reliable and can be fairly quick. Ported intake and heads, larger bored throttle bodies, and a set of headers brought my dads '84 to at least 300 horsepower.
Some claim the first year of any new generation of Corvette has bugs that weren't worked out, but I've noticed none on our 130,000 mile '84. Everything works well.
If the car has the Z51 suspension, however, expect a stiff ride.
Thanks guys
found other interesting stuff in other posts as well.
Thought no vettes were made in 83 hence the 83? in the title , but wasn't 100%
205 hp ?? geez my old Holden with 5 lt makes more , thats very low.
Will need some thought on this cause 205 hp is not what I want so engine upgrades will need to be considered in price.
I bought an 84 about a year ago. By no means is it "slow". Its all relative. These cars put out a truck load of torque (295 ) So it has kick off the line. Just do a search for my posts and see what i have done to the car...Gotta go to class now so i will write more later

I'd still run your Holden with my '84, and probably beat you. These cars came with 3:07 rear ends and are stron off the line and they will top 140 mph. The Z51 option on the '84 allows this car to handle like it's on rails. Documented test results from GM, Road & Track, etc.. show 1g on the skid pad. The GM test showed 1.01g.
The thing to remember, it is an 18 year old car. It was one of the fastest when it was built. You can't compare 18 year old technology with current technology....apples to oranges.
An 84 is actually a cool thing I think. I was the first year of the C-4 and introduced the most cutting edge dash in the industry and in my opinion, still the best.
I have never had any problems with my Digital Dash and everything works, it just puts the new dashes to shame. Just goes to show somethimes De Evolution occurs to satisfy the masses.
