I keep hearing how the 84's are slow, etc, etc. Mine easily smokes the tires and chirps them shifting into 2nd - is this typical or do you suppose the PO did some work to the engine? It still has original intake manifold. I may take it to a local dyno shop just to see what kind of HP it's putting out.
The Crossfire has long runners, which aid in building low end torque. The torque is why you feel strong acceleration off the line. When the trans shifts, the engine falls right back into the middle of the torque curve, hence the chirp. My old 150K Crossfire would do the same....but when I put new tires on it, both went away and the car just pulled. How old are your tires....any chance they're getting a bit hard?
At any rate, the CF ran respectfully for it's day, and still ain't bad today....it just runs out of breath at anything above 4000 rpm. Around town, it feels like any other C4 (ZR-1 notwithstanding).
I think I have had my 87 above 4000 rpm only a few times. I have no reason to race much in my car. I bought it because it is fun to drive on a warm sunny day .
Mostly with my 3.07 rearend, my engine just never revs up around town. I have an Automatic and my car just purrs along doing 70 around 2300 or so .
My car is just a fun sporty car to drive. What it was intended to be. Not a muscle car or super fast car. The right mixture of handling and power.
Sounds like your crossfire us setup well and in good working order. Check your tire size I have a set of tires on stock rims that are 245's and they spin easier and chirp and all the rest. But when iput on wider tires it spun less. Stock your tires should be 255's.
You could have a crossfire with a ported intake manifold and larger tbs and injectors maybe a higher stall converter, shift kit. It would be pretty tuff to tell these mods are on the car. Do you know the previous owner or did you buy it from a dealer.
Stock crossfires run about 15.1 in the 1/4. TPI cars are only half a second quicker. If you find out anything about your car or get it dunked let us know.
You could buy yourself a g-tech and see if your corvette is in the ball park of a stock crossfire.

Fast or slow compared to what? Smoking of chirping the tires does not make a car fast, all it does it does is get you attention and wears out the tire. Your car is slow compared to car with more horsepower that is set up to use it for driving fast. Grumpy a forum member has a Saying " IF YOU CAN'T SMOKE THE TIRES FROM A 60 MPH ROLLING START YOUR ENGINE NEEDS MORE WORK !"
If you are happy with your current setup, then it FAST as you need it to be.

Yep, I'm happy with my car - it's a Z61, has newer 855 tires and everything seems stock. I'm not racing or abusing it, generally cruising it around and enjoying the experience. I know it's not like a newer vette, but asked just because some of the posts here imply that the CFs are *so* slow and a pain in the neck to maintain, which is the exact opposite of my experience.
i run an 84 crossfire down the strip sometimes the only mods i have now are true duel exhaust no cat flowmaster muffs and the k&n filter in the stock box we get down at 14.8 and my reaction time could be better! I rev it to about 5200 and she still seems pretty getty up there not the fastest but i said it was stock! maybe with these simple mods like porting the intake could take us into low 14s!!

Cars are like women, some people try have to go along with the mainstream by changing or getting what someone else said is what your suppost to have or be like. You like what you like, and that's just fine with me. If it make you happy, enjoy it.

It just goes to show that these old cars still produce good 1/4 mile times even with high miles.
My crossfire with: renegade intake, 2 inch TB's, random cat, walker rear y-pipe no mufflers, k&n, ads chip & 180 stat, underdrive pulleys, shift kit, fuel pressure adjusted to 15 psi and timing advanced to 12 gave me a best of 13.98 in the 1/4 mile.

Mine will do the same. No matter what is said about the CF there is going to be somebody downplaying them and it is usually the ones that have never owned one. I have had mine for four years now and looking forward to more smiles....each and every mile I put on it. This is just my opinion.
