Probably around $200. What makes you think you need an intake valve adjustment? Not to common these days, and generally means other troubles on an older engine.
It is probably one of the easiest jobs to do on an 84, not much harder than replacing the valve covers (very common). You might try it yourself. Try tightrning them 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn. If it still makes noise, you have other problems (Bad lifter or cam). Additives often work on engines that don't get driven much.
Go to Harbor Freight( or any parts store) pay $5.00 for a mechanics stethoscope. Spend some time listening to each cylinder through both the intake runners and the exhaust. Listen for differences in sound. I wager you will find the offending lifter, if it is a lifter. Also listen to each injector. Injectors have a click that can become quite loud.
BTW, Harbor Freight has their electronic stethoscope on sale. I thought it was a gimmick but I tried one anyhow. It comes with different length probes and a set of headphones. It's great for filtering out background noise and is very, very sensitive. It has a sensitivity/volume control rheostat on it and works just great. I'm never going back to my old one.
