Default Guage coolant temp sensor wire...

I was going around hooking up all of the electrical connections to the motor on my '85, and I couldn't find the one that plugs into coolant sensor in the driver side head. There is a plug coming out of the same loom as the alternator wires with a connector similar to that of the O/2 sensor. Is there another seperate wire that plugs into this and then plugs into the coolent sensor? If so, I think I've misplaced mine. Where can I get it? Dealer? TIA...

There is a optional coolant temp switch on the drivers side head between #1 and #3. The wire from that goes over toward the drivers side "fender" for lack of a better term - toward the wheel well.

Not sure what that connector may be, but on that side you have the egr solenoid and the IAT under the plenum?

I think the optional sensor of which you speak is on the passenger side head. That goes to the pusher fan in front of the radiator, which I think is part of the HD cooling option. The sensor in the driver side head goes to the guage for the dash readout only. I've already got the IAT hooked up (that comes right out of the firewall) and it wouldn't reach far enough to be the EGR solenoid. If I remember right, the wire used to run between the block and the motor mount, up to the sensor.

The main coolant temp sw is on the right side of the block behind the oil dipstick; the aux cooland temp sw is between #1 & #3 plugs in the block. For this latter sw, look for a wire with a connector comming out of the harness that runs along the inner left wheel well.

i just replaced my connector from the left head, as the old one was broken. it is the same connector as the knock sensor on the right side, kind of round connector with a single pin in the middle. the part # is 12102621 and the description is pt308 connector, and is available from the dealer

good luck, david

There are three sensors dealing with coolant temp on my engine. There is a coolant sensor in the front of the intake manifold for the ECM. The sensor for the aux fan on my '85 is on the passenger side, which has the same type connector as the knock senser (as said in the above post). I believe my block has a fitting for the oil cooler in the hole behind the dipstick you speak of.

the aux coolant temp sw is between #1 & #3 plugs in the block. For this latter sw, look for a wire with a connector comming out of the harness that runs along the inner left wheel well.
I am 95% certain the sensor in my cyl head between #1 and #3 is for the guage. It has a male blade type connector on it. Could some one please maybe take a picture of their '85 around this location? Thanks!
