Welcome to the Forum, Mike!

This is standard procedure for noObs to post a pic of their Vette when introducing themselves. We like pics! Also fill out your profile if you havent already. This helps with giving proper responses to your future questions. A pic also goes a long way in making sure you arent trolling. Its not uncommon here.

The console switch I believe has some lock out features like it shouldnt open when you are in gear or maybe even when the car is running. Check the owners manual for more info. Assuming your hatch does works with the door switches and all the proper conditions are satisfied, check for power at the console switch. If everything checks out you could try some contact cleaner on it or replace it.

Good luck!

Shift as per any other stick car
Overdrive on trans automatically engages when engine reaches operating temp and trans is shifted into 2nd.
O/d will automatically disengage (kick down to direct drive ) when a certain amount of throttle is applied and re-engage when throttle lifted ( conditions apply )
See
http://www.5speeds.com/43table.htm

Pushing the O/d switch before driving off disengages auto engage function.
Using the switch when in motion you have full manual on/off control of it's operation.
Recommended to push in clutch when engaging or disengaging O/d in manual mode as it takes strain off unit
Many disengage for city use and only use O/d when on open road cruising

If you have no service history ,recommended to change fluid and filter in O/d as factory specified changes at every 12K and service on many have been neglected.
Uses filter from Ford FMX auto trans
