I got mine from CL for $500. It has a rebuilt engine that the PO never got started. I put in a new fuel pump and FI's and it runs great. Looks like dokie but I am going to have it painted soon.
As so goes the process of winnowing out the cars that are used up beaters, wrecks, and parts cars. The C2 and C3 generations saw this. Now for the C4s. What is usually left are excellent cars well taken care of by their owners, rising values as demand starts to outstrip supply (this might take some time for the C4s), and a sense for how special the cars were.
So what you are saying is that other cars this old that fall into this very poor state of condition don't go this cheap? Regardless of what name is on this car, it's a piece of junk that is probably not worth much at all except parts.

It's pretty far gone. I remember really rough early C3's going dirt cheap when I was a kid in the 70's. Gas had hit the astronomical sum of .65 a gallon, and if the cars were in bad shape, nobody wanted them.

You'd be surprised at how many ratted out C3's I still see here in SoCal on CL! My favorite was the CL ad with the C3 pic with the car rammed into the cement parking stop and you can tell that it wasn't the first time. The whole air dam was wasted and the lower part of the front nose had numerous scrapes. Geez, you'd think they'd know better!
and Mobilians would just eat that up! Of course, so many of the folks like the tall wheels and low profile tires, that could be an option.
I had seen the ad before when they were asking $1000, but have no need for any of the parts from a car that probably sat through Katrina in the same place. Without the top.
