l98 noise
I know this is a shot in the dark without anyone being able to hear it but I have a 91 with 85000 miles and it makes on odd noise its not a knock and ist not the "cheap gas" sound its most noticeable when its echoing off the garage walls or another car it sound like its top end and it really does seem to change alot with engine speed. is this a simple valve adjustment or is my engine getting ready to explode

Suggest using a long piece of vacuum or fuel line hose, place an end in one ear & some cotton or ear plug in the other ear. Listen around the engine & try to locate the source of the noise. If you can source the problem area it will be easier to identify the problem.

I have a clicking coming out of my pass side as well. It's incrediably loud. I modified a plastic shot glass to listen though. Drill a hole in the bottom, glue a vaccuum tube to it, then the same thing on the other end.
It was coming from the injector. Loud as hell and I thought it was a valve. It was coming from #4 a little more than the rest. Went away after warm

Good weekend project. New at your mileage it as time to replace the injectors anyway. Have someone help you that has done this before. The L98 fuel system is kind of like a Chinese puzzle. You really have to remove a lot of stuff to get to the injectors. You might as well remove the intake manifold while in there and replace the gaskets as they will eventually leak on you. Good time to replace the radiator hoses, spark plug wires and plugs too. Also a great time to upgrade or refinish the valve covers.
It's called "while I have it apart" disease and is quite expensive.
Here is a YouTube how-to video by Sammy Calderone. He does a nice job but you may want to stop and label all the hoses and connectors when you do it.
