I bought my 87 about 3 years ago and the windows have always been slow but I didn't pay any mind to it untill I test drove a collectors edition the other day and noticed the windows roll down at light speed is this normal for early C4s to be slow or is it just mine? Never had a problem with them not going down motor seems fine but, kinda slow. Can anyone relate?
Re: C4 windows slow? Is this normal? (vettemanjoe87)
my 84 has a similar problem. The driver side will go up and down with the blink of an eye, but the passenger is SLOW, nothing wrong with the motor that I can find but definately slow!
Re: C4 windows slow? Is this normal? (vettemanjoe87)
when I replaced the outer window seals on my 89 they sped up. I think over time the felt pads wear down and cause more friction and resistance to the window moving

I disaasembled everything including the motors and cleaned and lubed everything. Now mine goes up and down with lightning speed compared to what it was like before the maintenance.
My pass side window has an aftermarket motor and regulator. It cruzes!! The only thing is that it doesnt go up all the way unless i open the door, it hits against the weather stripping and leaves a crack in the back. How do i adjust it?
On my 87, the windows go up FAST!!! I dunno WHAT they did, but in NONE of the receipts does it show that it ever had the window motors upgraded or changed..so I dunno. All I know, is I need new inner and outer window seals. (It makes the car look SO much better to have brand new ones) But I think they're tricky to install, so I'm waiting till I can have them done professionaly.

The raise/lower mechanism on early C4's was a **** poor design. It is a gear rack in ribbon form. Later C4's are far superior. GM knew this and made an upgrade kit available. I installed the upgrade kit on both doors of my 86 Vette. It worked great. I highly recommend them. It will take you about 6 hours to do one door, but it is not particularly hard, though. I think the kit cost about $100 per door. While you are at it, I recommend replacing the door handles so they look nice and new.
haha my buddy with an 86 vette says his roll up slow cuz the lil outer and inner window seals, "Form a really tight seal." hahahaha he doesn't want to admit that his motors are near fried.

If you are a window racer then you may have a problem but if the window goes up and down then what's the rub? Be glad the windows work at all :yesnod:
