Default ignition problem....need help!

1987 manual

My ignition will start the car but will not turn back to off and I cannot remove the key. The car will turn off but the tumbler doesn't turn back far enough so that i can remove the key. It was like this when I got the car.

It has had a transmission repairs and a clutch. The guy i bought this car from said the car had to go in reverse to remove the key but something was causing it no to.

Any info is appreciated, this is my first experience with a c4

Thanks,

your ignition switch, down on the steering column has slipped, loosen it and adjust it, the rod that goes from your lock cylinder to it isnt allowing the key to turn far enough. all chevys are the same as far as that goes.

Could be a missadjusted switch as above.

Don't know about the 87 manual trans car but my 90 6sp has a button on the ign switch cover that needs to be depressed in order to turn the ignition one more "notch" in the off direction to remove the ignition key.
