I had an 88 convertible. Things to look for: rag top condition, replacement $1000 done by a shop. Wheatherstrip condition, replacement $700 to $800 if you do it yourself. Lights going up and down, repair $depends who does the job, thread left in the tires, how it drives, oil leaks, ect. just like buying any convertible with the difference that it will cost you a litle more to repair a corvette than another car. If it is stok it will be easier to find people to work on it, if not more difficult=more expensive. Good luck with your buy.

For the OP, what George was trying to say is painting one of these things can be insanely expensive, 5k to 6k is not unreasonable for high end paint. Weatherstrip is also expensive and prone to early demise. Both the L98 engine and the 700R4 transmission are rocks and will last a long time if cared for and properly maintained. Make sure the dash is in working order and the A/C as well. Neither are cheap to repair.

Look the car over really good and make sure the owner hasn't added any 'special' touches to it like the PO of my 87 did.
That's right! That's MOLDING on the inside of the car. And it was everywhere on the outside too.
But, for what I paid, I took it all off and all is good! (kinda)

I sold my 95 6 sp Z51 car when I retired in 1998 to buy a New 6 Sp Z51 Convertible that was NOT BLACK...
Last December I purchased a 1988 35th Anniv Edition (auto) and the only thing I can complain about is that the L98 simply runs out of air and stops pulling much much sooner the the LT1 later models.. BUT to this old man that is no big deal because the low end torque of the L98 makes the older car "feel" ast as the devil up uu until you got to the other side of the intersection...lol
I always liked the 35th addition so have no complaints BUT the dash (especially the dash) and engine of the later models are better ...
BTW.. I'd like to find a shop that would paint a car with a show quality paint job (the 88 does not need one) for 4 to 8 grand... ..guess many guys do not get show quality paint put on there toys...
