Looks like the heater core went out in my 92, it was leaking antifreeze in the passenger foot well. For the time being I have by-passed the heater core. Replacing the H\C appears to be a time consuming job even for a contortionist which I am not. Other than no heat are there any downsides to doing this? Is this going to cause me more problems down the road or can I run like this for awhile? Heat is not a problem here in Arizona.
Part #1 - the dreaded heater core - is the biggest PITA chevy killed us with.
Bypassing will not do any harm.
I have been reading a lot of different threads on other forums sealing heater cores using common available treatments. I have not tried any yet myself, but I would not hesitate to try any of them isolated from the rest of the cooling system. But I have not heard of anyone on this forum successfully using anything to fix them other than the old fashion break your back R&R.
Pop the hood and somewhere between the water pump and where the hoses go into the firewall connect them both together. Some later cars have a tee fitting I think so connect the two between that and the firewall.
