Rearview Mirror inside
So the mirror was missing when I bought my 88 C4 convertible. E bay turned up a nice IROC mirror with map lights. Spacing is about the same on the extensionl shaft, but the IROC mirror is heavy and has a 3 wire light system. Mounting on the IROC mirror is "plate and paste"-- The stock is a screw through.
In an ideal world I would just snap the ball ends out and swap them, but the "extension rod" that attaches to the ***** appears to be metal, with the ends formed over the *****. Any disassembly at these joints is asking for future trouble with saggy-sloppy mirror problems.
Ram mounts make an extension that appears to fit a 5/8 ball on each end. Available in aluminum or plastic, but the Ram mount has a big tightening handle that would look pretty out of place. They call it a size A for 5/8" ***** and Size B for 1" *****.
However the ram mount is a split design that would allow easy attatchment.
I'm thinking that by sacrificing a stock mirror "extension rod" I could cut it longways and then use some springs and screws to reassemble it around my stock mount ball and the new mirror's ball. This would allow tightening to make up for wear and tear on the joints.
Before I start playing with my *****, I wonder if any of you have had any experience with this part. Your own of course.
I was sorta' hoping that someone had run across an available "extension rod" that would look good for the mirror rod replacement. I'd hate to spend all the time with my dremel tool when a standard part is available.
I imagine that the size of the ***** is pretty standard, but it would be just my luck to have a disparate set of ***** when I attempt this refit. You know the one on the mirror bigger than the one on the mount. I don't know if the ram mount can be refit with a neater adjustment shaft, say an allen screw, to clean up the appearance. Hoping to profit from some other owners experience,
TDCVA.

Never argue with simplicity.
