New here and have some questions about the 1989 vette. I have been in the market for a while now and came across one that seems to be pretty fair. It has 120k miles, new tires, new fuel pump, new injectors and a new exhaust. Asking price is $7500. Becuase of our area and his circumstances I may be able to talk him down, but I am wondering what a fair offer might be? Also, should I be looking for anything specific when it comes these cars such as known issues, etc...Body and interior look to be in very nice shape.
Take the next two months, and look at as many cars as you can. Based on what you've told us, this car is over priced by about 33%. There are a ton of C4's out there right now, and the economy is in the crapper. It's a buyers market.....keep looking. An impluse decision right now will bite you in the tail later.
You might be able to pick it up for $6800. If he goes to $6000, great but beware! Him jumping from $7500 to $6000 quickly could mean more than him having bad circumstances. $6800 for this car in all around good shape would be a fair deal. Sometimes a lowball offer will be accepted right away. This speaks volumes.
Because of what area/circumstances?
Are there plenty in the area for sale?
hows the paint/interior etc?
Too many out there to pay top buck right now but always better to pay a little more upfront for a nice one.
Body and interior is really nice. I know someone who is a mechaninc and I am in the process of trying to line him up for a quick look for me. Our area was hit hard with flooding this past summer. Over 4000 homes lost, mine included.. He is under the gun for some fast cash, I guessing to help with other costs. The car was not flooded and was moved to a safe place prior. I have found 8 C4's (83 through 92) for sale within about a 150 mile radius of me. All priced between $6k and $13k and mileage between 85k and 135k.
I have yet to drive the car as the owner has been out of town on business but he did call me today to arrange a time this weekend. He pointed out the work he has done as I mentioned above and also stated two issues with the car. The first is that the AC does not turn off so he has disconnected it. From the research I have done it could be the relay module. The other issue is the the PO installed an aftermarket cd player and he stated he it sounded like crap with the amplified factory speakers so he also disconnected that as well. Thoughts?

Thank you everyone for the quick reply's and suggestions...Just had another C4 pop up on my radar. I'm in no hurry to purchase and want to make sure I make the right decision on the right car. This one is a 92 with 96k on the odometer. Newer paint (carfax shows no accidents), auto, newer tires, both targa tops (painted and glass) much nicer body and interior. Asking price is $7900 but he is willing to come down. Only 2 known issues that were disclosed right away are as follows...Pass Power Seat Switch needs replacing and the Dash Switch that cycles through the info center also needs replacing (have to push hard and works intermittently). NADA shows this car with the mileage booking out around $9450..This scares me a little considering most of the banks and dealers in my area use NADA pricing and his asking price is below dealer retail. The car is located 110 miles from me and I will happen to be there this weekend so I plan on checking it out when I'm there. Anything I should pay attention to on this one? Thanks again everyone
92 sounds like a decent car. How many miles on this one? The LT1 is faster than the L98 out of the box, and the driveline is bulletproof with proper care. If the interior and paint are good, offer $6800 and see if he bites.
