Lotta folks use a silicone dielectric grease. Might want to give that a try. Would be a FAR sight better than the spray on vinyl treatments.

I thought that there was a 3M product that was made for this task. The silicone wont breakdown the weatherstrip?

I've been using dielectric grease for many yrs. on the weatherstripping. Just rub it in WELL or it will make a mess. Especially on your car cover (if you use one). And the price is right. :yesnod:

No. It's the solvent in the aftermarket products that leaches the plasticizer out of vinyl that causes cracks....not the silicone.

I have always gone the cheap route and used vasoline, rub it onto all the weatherseals, let sit overnight and wipe off the next morning keep a rag in the car as you will miss a bit the first time but it worked well for my t-top firebird and even helped loosen up a few spots that had turned hard and useless.

BMW manufactures a great product for this application....BMW Gummi Phlege. :yesnod: It's something that has to be ordered through a BMW dealership, but it's great stuff.

BMW's weatherstrip is far superior to what's on my C-4, I can tell you that. I use silicon spray and it works well, too. Just have to keep the oversrpray off the finish.
