For normal street driving, or daily driving to work in my case, the advantage of being able to rotate the tires to extend the life of the expensive tires of today, far offsets the potential loss of performance, assuming there is any. The amount of rubber on the ground is determined by the width, not rim size. I suppose a smaller sidewall translates to increased handling performance, but I'm never gonna notice with the kind of driving I do. For me, my car is a fun, good looking, cheap car that gets good gas mileage. Keeping it going and looking good for as long as possible are my main objectives. Being able to rotate tires helps me do this.

I think the staggered wheel and tire sizes are for stance and looks on moderate performance cars like my 86. It does look slick though.

Thanks for all the great info. I have decided to go with 17X9.5 all around and buy 285's for the front. Wheelsforless have the Torq Thrust 2.1's for $217 each, includes lugs, caps, chrome valve stems, and shipping!

2 options:

17X9.5 +46mm offset 7.06 inch backspace

17X9.5 +32mm offset 6.51 inch backspace

Ready to purchase, just don't want to make a mistake. tech had limited knowledge of late model C4's. Any recomendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

From that link, it looks like...

1992 (base)
front & rear 17"x9.5" 56mm (7.4" backspacing)
Goodyear Eagle GSC, P275/40ZR-17

I am aware of the factory wheel specs. Exact spec not available from Torq Thrust. Need to know which of the 2 options will work best with 285's .

Thanks,

I used to run 17x10.5 Torq Thrust Ms on all four corners with 285/40/17 tires all around. I thought it looked awesome!

Does look nice with those wheels

I have a white 96. They have some that are black.

Wonder how they would look like on a white 96?

I was searching, and could not find any grey/anthracite wheels on a polo green, so I just pulled the trigger on these. TTII 9" front, 10.5" back. I have 255 front and 285 back.

I like it.

Still cannot decide for myself... Torq-Thrust D's (with the grey centers), Torq-Thrust D's in chrome (like I have on my Cherokee), or Torq-Thrust II's.

Whatever I do, I'll retain the same size on all 4 corners like I have now.
