Default c4 electrical issue

Hi

I am posting this for a friend who can drive a Corvette, but not a computer!

Anyway-he has a C4 corvette that he rarely drives. He put a new battery in it about 6 months ago. About 3 weeks ago, he drove it around town, then parked it in his garage. No issues.

Yesterday, it would not start-no lights, stuck in gear, no electrical at all.

If anyone has any ideas, he would like to hear them.

Thank You

If he turns the key on and the security light to the left of the speedometer lights up then it is a VATS (vehicle antie theft system) problem. Tell him to wipe the pellet on the key off real good, wait 2-3 minutes and try again. If not that what is the dash voltage gauge reading? Possibly just a battery cable loose if low/no voltage.

As for the stuck in gear is it an automatic? If so is the problem that he can't push down the button on top of the shifter?

First idea would be a battery maintainer. just converts AC to DC (house current to battery voltage) and maintains the battery when the car isn't being driven on a regular basis. Not expensive, 20 bucks or so I think.

Second, the new battery shuld not drain down in 3 weeks. So there must be a drain. To find a drain recharge the battery, remove positive battery cable and hook voltmeter between positive post and red cable, I can't remember the settings on the voltmeter but you can google it. I think your looking for a draw in amps. It probably won't be much so work carefully. The idea is to see if there is a draw. Once you establish a draw then pull the fues one at a time until the draw stops. Then you know what circut the draw is on. From there it's finding the problem. A factory service manual with the electrical supplement would be helpful. also if that car has under hood lights they will have to be disabled to do the test. It's time consuming and a PITA but the alternative is paying some shop $120 an hour so they can track it down. And, neither you nor they may ever find it so get the battery maintainer.
