Yeah, perhaps that's true for cars on the auction block, sans any real information on how it was driven and maintained. But, far as condition goes, the older a car gets, more ambiguous mileage vs. condition gets.
So, with the notion that after a car is 10 years old, the mileage - especially low mileage doesn't have much sway, far as condition goes. There's just toooo much variation in how the motor might have been used or maintained. On the other hand, in my experience, a well maintained SBC MAY be in its twilight at about the 170k miles. But if compression is good, and doesn't use oil, party on!!
If you use the average of 12,000 miles per year, a 1994 would have 204,000 miles. Most Corvette owners operate their weekend car about 3,000 miles per year or that 1994 would have about 51,000 miles on the clock. I personally buy only low mileage cars, my current C4 has 8,500 miles. I purchased it two years ago with 6,000 miles, This car has been maintenance free and looks/drives like new.
I have a 95 and it has turned over 136,000 and runs great. I just drove it from ohio down to myrtle beach and back. What a great car to drive. I do all my own maintenance. I love it. As a matter of fact it gets better gas mileage than my 2009 cadillac cts. Thanks, brent317
I've got a 95 and it had just about 177200 miles on the clock when I got it here. When I bought it I figured it wasn't that bad since most of my cars have over 180000 miles and still run fine.
My Vette was in fair condition for the price I paid and I knew it's history. I knew it was maintained and driven by a person who loved driving it.
After I got the car here and dealt with the interior witch I think I fixed quite well. I got my friend to put it on the lift and take a look under there. The diagnoses was that it's in good condition. And we changed the oil and filters. The breaks are good the engine is running great. So is the transmission.
The only problems I've got is a bit of leaking oil at the valve covers. Because the previous mechanics were apparently in a rush and didn't tighten ti enough or over tightened it.
The right front wheel hub is going bad and the some of the rubber parts around the wheel assembly will have to be changed sometime.
Oh right and the weather stripping and seat are temporarily fixed and will need to be replaced eventually.
Other than that I think it's in great shape and I have no concerns about taking it on any trips. But my expectations were that I was going to do between about 1700 to 2500 miles per year with it since I'm not planing to use it in bad weather as in winter and stuff (snow, salt, gravel, etc.).
My 64 now has 108000 ... 2300 a year
My 72 now has 128000 3300 a year
my 76 now has 94000.... 2700 a year
my 79 now has 106000... 3300 a year
my 88 now has 102000... 4400 a year
my 98 now has 27000 ... 2100 a year
Bottom line I gotta drive the 76 (my favorite vette to drive btw) a lot more and my 98 sure needs to be driven more also
I would trust all of them to go coast to coast with no issues...
I bought my 99 2 months ago with 155K on it. It runs great but has lots of little issues. I'm fixing them one at a time. This board has been great. So far I've fixed the dim A/C, run away wipers, replaced A/C-heater fan, replaced both gears in the headlight gear boxes, and window regulator. I had someone else replace the oil pressure sending unit. I tried getting the driver side power seat to work yesterday, but no luck. So far it's fun!
