Default shifter **** removal

This is probably vey easy but before I do something dumb, how does the shifter **** come off the manual transmission car? Is it just threaded, or is there a pin locking it or something? also, the little plastic insert with the shift pattern, it is just loose on top, and it looks like there should be something under it so it does not titer toter....

Once you pry up the shifting pattern inset. There is a wedge key that locks the **** into place. You need to pull it out. Then unscrew the ****
