Default Another Opti Question

Was there a GM Opti Spark recall on any of the C4s? I am the second owner of a great running '94 with the original Opti and 50k on the clock.

Approx. 118k miles on my '96, and still has the original Opti.

I've never seen so much fuss over a damned distributor before.

There was a recall in '92, the first year for opti's.

Sailor is correct. I have the GM letter for the '92.

Like a divorced woman with kids, blame your imperfections on her to the fact she has high mileage and you are not the original owner.

Most of the time is not the opti unless your opti is soaked on oil, gunk and the weep hole is doing its job.

Welllll, if the water pump wasn't such a pain to remove, and the harmonica balancer wasn't so tight (remember that one??) and the serpent belt didn't have to come off, and, and, and....

If you have the engine on an engine stand, it's a piece of cake!!!

My back still aches from changing mine this summer!!

But i still haven't gotten up the nerve to take all the pieces out to replace my AC's blend door. Now there's a challenge!

I tend to agree to much fuss. 100,000's of these things were in other cars and people just drive them and if they went out they replaced it as a maintenance item and got on with life. Distributors are far from perfect and all cars have that one part that people like us who obsess go, what were they thinking? In retrospect I think for the time it is a pretty neat piece of engineering and bridge to what was to come.

At this point, you are driving a 20 year old car, I don't think one going out is a surprise, agreed the labor is a bit of a PITA but just think to yourself, thank god it was not the heater core.
