The Vette has always been a "Beta" car for GM, but unless you have a Test Mule, there wasn't any R134 (in any car) until '94. Your '88 uses R12. If you would like to know what's in it - and if you're not the original owner - get a Shop to tell you. People dump all sorts of nasty stuff in their cars hoping to make the a/c work again.

changing to 134
I changed my 86 over to 134 refrigerant and one little trick is to change the pressure cycling switch by replacing it with a switch from a 94 vette which uses 134. This switch responds better to 134.
