Default Vinyl Adhesive?

Just bought some marine vinyl to cover some plastic (ABS) parts in my 88. Looking for a good adhesive that dries quick so I can easily stretch around the plastic parts, and will last over time. Thanks.

You need 3M contact cement. It comes in a spray can and its made for upholstery work. I think the parts stores have it. I get it at a bodyshop supply store.

Thanks for the response. I did a quick search, and looks like there are multiple contact adhesives from 3m. Is there one that you would recommend over another? Looks like the following 3 might work:

3M™ Rubber And Vinyl 80 Spray Adhesive
3M™ Super 77™ Multipurpose Spray Adhesive
3M™ Hi-Strength 90 Spray Adhesive

I think I'm leaning toward the 90.

I cant say one is better than another. I cant even say which ones I have used. Dont recall. I have had good luck when using it though. Odds are I used the multipurpose.

Could you please post before-after pics when you have completed this.
I am asuming this is the same issue I (and as I have seen from pictures alot of other people) have with the 1994 interior. The rubber-like surface peels off and leaves just the plastic surface which scratches easily...

Have seen people on other forums considering painting their wheels with some sort of matte black spray paint that is supposed to be possible to just tear off if you want to take it off.
Is this a product that could be used on these interior surfaces?

I haven't noticed much difference between the 77 and 90. 90 goes on a little thicker, maybe. Both work well. Follow directions and experiment on some scrap first.

Actually its for the console sides on an 88. My console has a few small cracks. Structurally, it's fine, visually, I'm particular about it. In addition, wanted to change the color from red to black. Could use SEM paint to change the color if it weren't for the cracks. Ill be working on it this week, so hopefully it goes well.

It's funny you mention it, but "Vinyl Adhesive" is what they sent me to install my convertible top. Mostly it was adhering cloth to cloth or cloth to the aluminum frame. No vinyl in sight. But it worked very well. The 3M products are probably as good or better, but it struck me funny that you're looking to glue vinyl, and what I used said 'vinyl cement' on the can, and it worked great on cloth.

Good luck on the restoration, and don't forget to post pics!!

90 is the best. There is a stronger one, vinyl top adhesive but it is very hard to find.

None of them like to stick to the plastic interior pieces. I have used all of them.
I would be certain to clean the plastic with brake cleaner. Then try some of the new
adhesion promoter for plastic. You can tell if it is going to stick. Spray some on. Let it
sit for a few minutes then pull the cloth or vinyl off. The cloth or vinyl should kind tear
as it comes off. If it comes off very clean not leaving any glue on the plastic it will not stick.
The plastic should not be free of glue. There should be glue on the fabric as well as the plastic.

It just depends on how much armor all the plastic had applied to it over the years.

Works the same on vinyl and cloth.

Sticks to wood or metal a lot better then it sticks to plastic.
