You can get replacement battery cable ends that are made for the original style side posts. The top post design can be a problem as the postiive terminal is very close to the firewall brace. Too much movenment and the post can contact the brace. That is not a good thing.
The stock battery is a Group 75 style. If you can find the Interstate Battery brand, get the MT75. If AC-Delco batteries are available, get a 75-6YR battery. Note that both of these batteries are the OEM side terminal type.
A full-charged battery that is not connected can last a long time. If you have access to a 110-120v electrical outlet near the car, use a battery tender to keep the battery at full charge. Two of the best IMHO are: Deltran and CTEK
Both are available from Summit Racing and they ship worldwide. You can also get the side terminal cable ends from Summit.
An optima will last 10 or more years.
I cut a thick piece of rubber and put it between that brace and the top battery post.
With my stereo I have to run an optima. Have one in all my cars. Never had to replace one.
