My Corvette got backed into earlier today. I am wondering how bad the damage is and what i should look for in a repair shop. opinions on parts needed are welcome also.
Not to get too off topic, but how does that C4 go in the snow on those tires? I'd love to have another but I don't want 3 cars so one would have to live with winter.
As far as a shop goes. Make sure they have experience with fiberglass specifically Sheet Molding Compound of SMC for short.
Some of that like the quarter panel looks repairable without needing new panels. This will save big $$$. Not too bad actually, I think it can be fixed. Good Luck.
SMC is the only stuff i would suggest using on body repairs. the stuff and the hardener is kinda pricey but it does the job right and lasts for many many years.
Thanks for the input so far. I found a fiberglass shop that is supposed to specialize in corvettes. However I will try to ask about the SMC.
As for snow drive-ability on my basically bald tires it is a hand full.
If there is a Corvette club in your area you can contact, maybe they could recommend a reliable shop. I feel your pain, I'm in the process of looking for a good shop to fix damage done to my 90.
Hello man, from the pics you provided I can tell you after working in a bodyshop for some years and graduating from a autobody school, were the damage is located most of the damage is in the door jamb area and a little on the actual quarter pannel itself most shops will try to sell you a new quarter pannel and repair the door jamb but imo both can be repaired without replacing the whole quarter. And my best guese looking at what would need to be done including paint and repair MAT. I would say you are looking at around 1500 to 2000.
get your alignment checked, i had something similar happen and it hit the top part of the passengers wheel in my kia. i recently check it and the camber is off and has no adjustments, that could mean bent or broken parts. and that was a while ago so im screwed if its anything serious. make sure something like that doesnt happen to you. xD
My car was hit in a parking lot as well, cracked the hood..their ins co offered me 3300.00...mine gave me 4600.00 and i was able to replace the hood, light and get the WHOLE car painted..get it looked at by both ins co's before accepting any offer..I had Hagerty and their point was they wanted the best repair done to protect OUR investment as the car is insured for a certain amount..my insurance does not go up for this..one reason to have this kind of insurance..can't comment too much on repairing this but I always like replacing parts rather than fixing them.
in the area I live I have only found the one fiberglass shop. He says he used to make Carbon Fiber drag parts for sandrails or something like that but I don't know. It has been a week and he still does not have a bid for me.
Any one know of a good body shop in the Salt Lake City Utah area?
