Default 1990 Convertible

Hello,
I am a new member and a first time owner, You can check me out with my post under Intros.

I have purchased a 1990 convertible and now looking for a used hardtop. How can I tell an OEM hardtop from an aftermarket? Will there be a part# located (where)?

Although I plan to keep the car stock, I would like to replace the stock wheels sometime. I know the rims are 17 x 8.5. I like the five spoke design from a C5 in gunmetal finish. Would 4 front rims off a C5 fit my car without having to add spacers or make any modifications?

To view pictures of my car, click on my name, click on public profile, and go into my photo album. Click on a picture to enlarge.

Thanks in advance for responses,
William

Welcome to the forum, there are some very knowledgeable people here who will help you out.
In regards to you question on the hardtop, when I bought my hardtop for my '90 I looked for the gm numbers on the support brackets and I as given some GM literature. As for numbers on the hardtop, can't remember sorry.
Do a search on the wheels and hardtop questions, most things have been asked many times before.

I, as well, just bought a 1990 convertible. You have to post pics. I saw a hardtop today on Ebay. Check it out, I am sure it will be fairly popular. I plan on staying with the soft top.

170742764378 This is the Ebay item number. It is here in Virginia.

Just a heads up...your stock rims are 9-1/2" wide x 17" on all 4's. I have a 1990 Vert also.

William, personally, I think you should wait on the wheels. You just got this car and I think it looks great, just like it is.

The factory hardtop has a built in roll bar made of rectangular steel. The Smoothline brand does not.

I have a 1990 Vert as well and it came with the factory optioned Hardtop. I put it in storage and have never looked at it again. It is a PITA to install and remove and in my opinion, it is useless. It looks really good on the car, but the fact that it is a chore to install/uninstall is a deal breaker for me. If you are driving around and it happens to be a nice day, you can't just pull over and drop the top to take advantage. It came with my car and is on it's RPO list so I want to keep it so I can keep the car complete, but I would never use it. I could see if you lived in Minnesota where it stays cold all winter, but in the South you would probably never use it. Just trying to save you a chunk of cash.....
