After fixing the broken bolt inside the cylinder head , I installed the EM longtubes. There was a leak in the driver side.
Changed the gasket to something better and thicker. The leak is still there !!
I doubt there is a problem with the headers surface. I need to remove it and check if it's 100% flat.
this is not my lucky month. if there was a problem with the headers I can't send it back to the U.S. it will cost me the same price of the headers for the shipping.
Not sure if I missed it, where exactly was/is the leak? Is it on the flange between the header and the head? If so:
- what cylinder#?
- I take it you cleaned the old head surface very well?
- there weren't any gouges on the mounting surface?
-did you slowly tighten the header flange, moving each way, from the inside to outside?
I have EM longtubes also, I just used the gaskets that were supplied with the kit. I'm sure it's something easy don't panic.
Use the Percy's dead-soft aluminum gaskets. Much better than the traditional gaskets and their re-usable.
You also need to make sure there are absolutely no clearance issues, otherwise the headers won't be 100% flat against the cylinder head when you install them. On mine, the headers were very, very close to the engine mount bracket on the driver's side. I used a die grinder to remove ~0.25" for peace of mind and ease of fitting.
