Default My C4 is worth more than my C5?

Just looked at Nada and found out my 1988 C4 booked out more than my 1998 C5.

It was around 18,000 + whereas my C5 booked at 15,500 or so.

I know it depends on condition but my both of my cars are very well taken care of while one is customized and the C4 has new paint, interior, running gear.

I thought C4's were at the bottom of value around $6500 or so?

I think it would have been more fun (for you) if you had posted this in C5 General instead...

as much as i love the C4's, its hard for me to choke down their estimated value of $18K for the 88. you have a beautiful C4, no doubt, but i don't believe that $18K is the correct estimated value.

Beautiful car! But, $18k?? will get you a low mileage 90 ZR-1

I'm just sayin...

I agree about the over estimation but it is what it is.... I've checked this value over and over for the past two months. I thought Nada made a boo-boo, but it hasn't changed.

I did buy this car for $6500 a couple of years ago as well as another 93 C4 for $6000. But they were valued less on Nada back then.

I suppose there will come a time for the C4's to increase in value, and I'm guessing it's now.

I own an 88 35th Anniversery coupe and also a 98 Z51 6 so Convertible (I am the original and only owner) ..

NOBODY ...and I mean NOBODY can tell me that my 35th Anniv 88 is worth More then my 98 ..

I also own 64 and 72 Convertibles along with 76 and 79 coupes the 64 is worth more then both the 88 and 98 combined ....and the 72 is darn close

However my favorite car to just plain drive and enjoy is the 76 low optioned L-48 4 speed ... go figure..????

Nada ???? is way off base on this one..

All this really only matters if you want to sell...the real question is, what's it worth to YOU?

This is an interesting thread. Tue my 35th Anna was hit by a med size truck, taking out lot of the LH side. Geico estimator said car was in "average" condition and worth $3,000...

I just checked that Nada site and low list price is $10,900; WTF, is "totaled" value so much below asking or is Geico really bending me over???

No, the NADA prices are total crap. The GEICO estimate is pretty much in line with "average" trade in. Depending upon your area and lacking special circumstances, average condition private party value would be $5500-$8000 (which is more than they are presently selling for). One of the reasons you see the higher priced cars out there is that they aren't selling and have been up there for months. Just because someone is asking a particular price doesn't mean that is what they are actually selling for. Another problem is people see a museum quality car sell for a high price, and think their car should go for near that.

I have an 88 too... looks to be in similar condition to yours. I paid $6900 for it 2 years ago.

Regardless of what any book says... $8k is a more realistic number... not $18k.

Only way it's worth $18k is if it's got virtually no miles. But even then... I highly doubt anyone would actually pay that for it. Regardless... it's not about how much it is worth according to some book... it's about how much it is worth to you (or me or whomever owns it). Just sayin'....

Anyway... gorgeous red 88 you have there (I may partial)!

Insurance companies use a different value guide. It's based on "average" selling price of a particular car. They recently tried to hose me for my wifes 04 Camry that got totalled by a deer.

We told them that's all fine dandy but you're comparing selling prices of 04 camry's with 200K on them to ours with only 65 and that won't work.

We got them to come up but still not total retail value of our car.

Insurance companies love your money but always try to rip you if you have a claim.

Well I don't expect full retail value for my 35th but for them to offer <1/3 of minimum retail sucks.

The insurance companies will always try and low ball you, they are a business just like anything else, the cheaper they can get out of a claim the better for them. Do your homework, and once they realize they are dealing with an informed person, watch the figures change in your favor.

That is why you should always clean and detail your car before the estimator sees it. You can often move your car from average to excellent condition which generally means more money, often a lot more money. You are "selling" this car to an estimator.
