Does anyone know anything about a TPI intake that has the bolt holes for a Vortec L31 head? I saw one from Summit for aroung $500.00 I don't want to get that much $$ into it. My motor is bad and I was thinking about rebuilding the L31 iron head motor I have and puitting it in the Corvette. I was hoping to pull one motor and put the other one back in the same day. I have to do this at a friend's shop and I don't want my car to be in his way while the machine work gets done on the L98. Any thoughts or suggestions?
I just stumbled across this thread and it looks like a great idea.
I looked at the Scoggin-Dickey web link and they say the vortec heads and their baseplate bumps a stock L98 up to 300 hp. This is a mod that would help a lot of us L98 owners.
Been there went with a vortec HSR. I put Vortec Fastburn heads on my L98.I had to go with a Vortec HSR that I modified and LT exhaust, the ports dont line up. I'm not saying the Vortec base won't work I just dont think its worth going with Vortec if you are keeping the TPI.
But, isn't that was the intake in post 3 is supposed to correct?
Yes, It will work just fine. I just chose a diff route. I have never been a fan of TPI, not stock anyway. The fastburns have a bigger exhaust port that the L31 so his exhaust may be ok/line up.
There is also a FIRST Vortec intake is they are still out there. If you are going to spend 500 on just the base might as well go 1000 on the F.I.R.S.T. https://www.firstfuelinjection.com/services.html
This is all new to me? My Hot Rodding days were before TPI and "vortec" and all of that.
I've been reading back through old magazines though.. And these Vortec heads (I assume they're similar to the ones on my Silverado?) appeal to me very much.

The Vortec Fastburns were designed using CNC ported LT4 heads as a model. Vortec is a great budget alternative to the L98.
