All answered in your other post.

If you remove AIR pump you need a idler (unless you remove A/c compressor as well.)

You may not pass emissions inspection without it.

This will be the only side effect. On start ups especially cold ones, the air pump injects air into the exhuast stream to cut down on hydrocarbon emissions. Unburnt hydrocarbons that is.

It will not "hurt" the engine w/o it. You, of course, need to compensate for the belt routing to avoid belt failure -- even if a shorter belt were installed. That's why people are forced to use an idler pulley in place of the air pump. IMO, a replacement USED brace is going to cost less than the adaptation required to run without the air pump.

The air pump adds air to the exhaust stream for two reasons. One is to heat up the catalytic converter(s) faster. By doing this, the converter begins doing it's "cleaning" faster. Also, that extra air helps add enough air to any unburnt engine fumes so they incinerate (burn up) when they go thru your converter.

Some believe the added air only raises the oxygen content in your exhaust -- thereby reducing the PPM for carbons IN RELATION TO THE AMOUNT OF AIR. And, that the extra air doesn't aid in the incineration process.

I've never seen "official" looking tests to confirm the later theory.

Default Ok I have an idea of what the air pump does thanks to forum folks.

I think ill replace the bracket and start work on an idler, once i get the bracket installed i can do some measurements to get the same layout.

thanks for all the replies guys

Should be a bunch of brackets out there with everyone doing the elimination. Ive got the whole deal somewhere around here in a bucket that I might be talked into letting go of at a reasonable rate plus shipping. PM me if interested.

The air pump also keeps the temp down on the cat converter. I would not remove it. Also make sure there is no exhaust coming through the check valves. They allow air into the exhaust.
