Note: 91 Convertible. Having my wheels redone. Tech called today to tell me the right rear (orange) sensor is missing. Now what?
I don't understand the system exactly. I did not get any codes to show the system was not working. The light comes on upon during testing cycle (ignition on) and then goes out immediately. Is this the normal way for this to work with a missing sensor?
When I say I did not get any codes I mean from the plug under the dash.
How does the system reset itself with the new sensor?
OK, I have looked at the Service Manual with electrical suppliment so I am little clearer on what is what. Now I need to know where the ALDL is located exactly. I see a hint in 'view a' but I could use a little more help. Anybody have a picture of this part or can send me to a site that has one. A little help would (will) be appreciated.
That's interesting, the LPTWS light should be on without the sensor present. The system computer has to receive signals from all sensors before the light extinguishes. There must be a keep alive battery in the computer to keep the light from coming on when the vehicle is started until the system reads all the sensors, my battery must be dead as my car has to be driven about 1,000 feet for the warning light to extinguish.

Question, which light comes on at start up ? You have a "Service LPTWS" light and a "Low Tire Pressure " light. Only asking because my Service LPTWS came on all the time and I took out the bulb, because they system was working and the light drove me crazy. It would trip because of radio interferences on my route to work. If the sensor was gone the service light would obviously stay on unless removed or altered. Just a thought.
Each tire/wheel houses a SPECIFIC sensor which is designated by color. I have not tried rotating my wheels, but my understanding is that due to the specific placement of the sensors the wheels can not be rotated without activating the "Service LTPWS" light.
If you are missing a sensor, you can usually find them on ebay and often times from forum members who get tired of dealing with the system. You just need to be specific about which sensor you need.

Good luck
Normally, each wheel had a sticker numbered #1 & #2. #1 was front #2 was back, etc.
The wheels can be rotated unless you have different sized tires on the front & back. My ZO7 has the same size all the way around.
This was needed, the numbered stickers, to keep track of where the colored sensors were located on each side of the car.
Each sensor has a Pizo battery that is activated when the wheel goes into motion. That's where the power comes from.
The ALDL is located on the driver's side lower trim panel above the right shin bone.
I don't know what pin has to be grounded for your year.
Ground the pin & the LTPWS light will flash the trouble code
Don't know why the system is operating with out a sensor?
I'm planning on removing all my sensors in my 96 when the tires need replacing. I already have a black piece of tape on the DIC to avoid the LPTWS light. I tired to trouble shoot my system by running the tires down to 20 psi to determine which sensor was not working, and the Low Tire warning light never came on so I don't know why the LPTWS light still comes on. I've only had the rear tires replaced recently when the issue started. I even bought used sensors for the rear with the same outcome. Time to remove this POS device.

With no sensor present shouldn't a code be set.
Impossible a LTPWS light would be set unless the blub was removed from the system or burned out. A quick turn to the run position without starting the car will verify if the blub is out. If it illuminates what really happened is your service tech broke one of the sensors during the tire demounting process. He is banking on you not being knowledgable enough to know that he or his crew broke the sensor.
The MY 90 and the MY 91 are the only years in which if you remove all four bands the LTPWS sensor light will not come on. If one is missing you would have seen that light on all the time unless as stated above the light is burned out or removed from the Driver Information Center or DIC. GC

The numbers are on the top of the sensor bodies. Each sensor has a color and part number associated for each of the cars four wheels.
They are always mounted 180 degrees from the Valve stem. Always tell the installer this so they dont screw up during the mount process. Its also easy to remember so you can tell the folks before the tire break down to be careful. GC

Google Orange Electronic TPMS. I have been using this tire temperature and pressure wireless device with a readout on top of my inside rear view mirror for several years now. It uses the TPMS valve/sender units built for Nissan and Toyota. I think I paid around $120 give or take a little for it from Amazon. Its now available from Tire Rack and other online tire sales. The addition of tire temperature is really useful when adjusting pressure.
