How long does it take to install front splash guards? Apparently the correct answer is three days!!! Well tomorrow will be three days if I get it all back together!
I started to install the right side SG, I had to use a longer screw to thread into the clip nut on the right side lower rocker. The longer screw was just a shade larger diameter than the original. When I went to tighten it, it rotated and broke the little piddly assed piece of plastic that the blind clip makes over.
I thought well, I'll have to take the rear inner wheel surround off, so I did. The amount of crap behind the inner wheel surround was unbelievable. So I thought...I should take the front one off too and clean that up.
Then seeing as I got them offf I might as well paint them. And if you do one side of course you have to do the other side.
When I got the driver's side off I found that battery had leaked acid at some time down onto the frame so I buffed all the corrosion off and painted the area with POR 15.
Every muscle in my body hurts!!! Hopefully I'll get er back toghether tomorrow. But she's been a lot of fun. Then I have to pull the top wheel well off the hood, left and right, and paint them so they match the new lowers.
Took me about two and a half hours to put Altecs on mine and the screws for the front rockers became too short and wound up lifting up the rear so I can have more room for a screw. In the long run it is worth it. They look great and offer protection.
