I have a maual control heater/AC control in my 94 C4. I see controllers for sale that must be an automatic temperature control unit. Can the manual controller be swapped out for the automatic controller? Or are teh wiring harnesses different depending on the options put in the car?
I read where some cars have one wiring harness and certain plugs just aren't used depending on what options are selected. If this swap is possible, are there other compontents that need to be plugged in to make this functional?
On most every car I have seen the standard control is vacumm operated while the automatic one is all electric. So the only way to a swap is to replace the everthing from the head unit to the door controller

Thanks for tolerating this question.
Thanks not needed, there have been waaaay dumber questions asked (mostly by me)
In the manual AC head (C60 option), the vacuum lines attach to the back of the controller.
The automatic AC (C68 option) has a separate "HVAC programmer" that has all the vacuum controls in it. Obviously there is a wiring harness that connects the controller to the HVAC programmer. The rear window defroster relay is also attached to the HVAC programmer. I think it's attached to the controller on the C60 option.
I think it's possible that the temperature door motor module might be different. Not sure about that one. I do know that the PC board in my C68 option car has a bunch of holes without components, so they might be filled in a C60 option car.

Also, from what I have seen on the Forum, the electronic control tends to be more problematic, and more expensive to repair as well. My '88 is electronic and the plus is that it does look nice when it works. From looking at the FSM and looking at it, it would be a pita to switch.
