How do you get the door panel off so I can change the window weather stripping on my 96 LT1 coupe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. :seeya :chevy
On my 92, there are about 6 screws on the carpet area (none hidden), one on the jam (near the hatch release) two on the door pull and one in front of the door opening handle. Once these are taken out, the black plastic slider for the door lock can be gently pulled forward and slid out.
The whole panel can then be moved out and the power connectors un-snapped.
The first time I pulled mine off there was a quarter and two dimes rattling around the bottom of the panel.
Pop out the plastic door lock. There is a phillips head under there.
Pop out the light above the handle with two small flat blade screwdrivers. There is a phillips head under there.
There is a screw behind the door handle
There are two screws in the part that you grab and pull to close the door.
Pop out the 5 of 6 buttons along the bottom of the panel. I have a door panel removal tool that makes this very easy.
Once all that is loose, pull strait up and it will come off. Reach behind and unplug everything. You'll have to work with the handle bezel a little also to feed it through if I remember correctly.
It's pretty simple. Just take your time and don't force anything that doesn't feel loose.
Thanks ZBRA I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes your directions sound simple and I really appreciate you taking the time to help once again you guys out there come through thanks again Guy :seeya :chevy

Re: Door panel removal? (Husker Vette)
how do u remove the 84-89 door panels??
Need to remove all the screws along the bottom of the panel.
One in the door handle area.
Any around the speakers in the panel if you have them.
Then lift the door straight up and disconnect all the wires for the lock, light, and hatch release.
Kinda fuzzy on this as it has been a year since I took mine apart......
There are 4 screws in the door handle area I believe. 2 in the door pull, 2 in the top vent, 1 on the side above the hatch release button, 4 on the speaker grill, and about 6 along the bottom of the door panel. Then remove the plastic lock pull rod, pull up on door panel and unplug the wires.
I replaced the outer door seals on my '87 last week. No big deal. Just take it apart really.
The only tricky part was adjusting the window, as the new seals had a lot better fit on them.
One other thing, when you are removing the old seal, run the window up about half way. This gives you pretty good access to the clips that attach the seal to the door frame.
They sure do look purdy!!!!!!!!!!
ps: I let mine hang by the wiring. Couldnt see a need to disconnect it, the panel weighs nothing
