The following question is rather "Out there" and possibly flat-out stupid, but here goes..
I have a 1992 convertible with all of the options (per factory window sticker). One thing I've noticed on my DIC when the light hits it just right, is a "Passive Keyless Entry" light that never lights up.
I know that the factory Keyless Entry was not an option in 1992 but is it a module that can be installed? It appears as though GM had already planned for it in 1992 for the later models, so they must have made the connections in the wiring harness.. Am I reaching too far or is this a possibility? I think it would be neat to have the factory option on the car as opposed to an aftermarket system (Don't want that.. too trashy).
There is another member posting right now who noticed info center items not available on his year car. It seems like maybe they designed the info center screen a little in advance of the current model year but included them in prodcution. Of course, you could add a factory PKE system, but it wold be very expen$ive. Your car is not "plug-in" ready for it; you would need to add the PKE receiver (if there is even room for it where normally installed), all the wiring, relays, antennas, etc. IMO, you would be better off finding an aftermarket system you approve of, you can probably find one for a couple hundred.
So where is the PKE receiver normally mounted? If I can find a wrecked C4, I might could snag the system for a reasonable price. The tough parts will be the keyfobs... They're proud of those suckers.
Rolla is correct. If you found a wrecked C4, chances are the receiver doesn't work anyway. If $130 for a fob sounds like the tough part, you are not thinking this through. None of the wiring is there, no antennas, no connectors, nothing. If you paid someone to install a PKE, you have to be easily talking four figures. (To answer your question, the reciver goes behind the dash, I've never done it, but I think you have to pull the whole dash to get access.)

That's what I wanted to find out.. If the original PKE system was plugged in somewhere accessible (Like the SRC box), I could check if they pre-made a spot for it in the wiring harness (Since they put the system on the DIC, it is possible). I do know where there is a wrecked 94 that would probably have the system installed... But if it's tucked way up under the dash than it might not be worth it (It's outside in the grass and cant very easily be tested).
$130/fob is rather prohibitive (they're NOT worth it), making them the more difficult parts to obtain at a reasonable cost.
