How's your fuel pressure when trying to start? I had a similar problem with my 89 and it ended up being a fuel pressure regulator. You can attach a fuel pressure gauge at the Schrader valve on the fuel rail to get a reading. Unfortunately I don't remember what the reading should be.

I would put a scanner on it and see what the temp sensor is reading in relation to app wngine temp. do this in the morning after the car has sat all night.

It could also be a failing fuel pump. Sometimes they act that way before failing.

One possible cause is the fuel pump relay. If it goes bad it takes several seconds of cranking for the oil pressure to build and then oil pressure override circuit activates the fuel pump.

If you put your foot to the floor it will go into flood clear mode. If your injectors are leaking this should allow it to start faster, and you'll know the injectors are bad.
